Ndorwa West MP Eliab Naturinda Mporera was officially sworn in for his first term in Parliament of Uganda, pledging to prioritise tourism, infrastructure development, and improved service delivery in the constituency.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mporera said his focus would be on boosting tourism through the construction and rehabilitation of tourism roads in Ndorwa West constituency, which is home to attractions such as Lake Bunyonyi.
“Better roads will not only boost tourism activities but also create employment opportunities for local communities,” he said.
Mporera further pledged to work with government ministries and local stakeholders to improve infrastructure and service delivery in Ndorwa West, highlighting key challenges including access to clean water, electricity connectivity, and rural road networks.
He emphasised the need to improve water access in Kabale’s hilly areas, noting that many residents still lack safe and reliable water despite the region’s natural water resources.
“We are going to work together with the Ministry of Water and other stakeholders to ensure that people in rural and hilly areas get access to clean water,” he said, adding that Lake Bunyonyi remains a potential source for underserved communities.
The MP also called for unity among political leaders, technical officials, and residents, urging cooperation beyond political differences in order to accelerate development.
Mporera’s rise marks a significant political shift in Kabale District following his victory in the 2026 general election, where he defeated longtime incumbent and former State Minister David Bahati.
He had earlier secured the National Resistance Movement flag in July 2025 before going on to win the parliamentary seat with 22,601 votes against Bahati’s 17,282 as an independent candidate.
The result ended Bahati’s two-decade hold on the constituency and ushered in a new political era in Ndorwa West.
Residents have expressed optimism that the new MP will address long-standing challenges including poor roads, water shortages, and youth unemployment.
The 12th Parliament has officially commenced proceedings with the swearing-in of MPs ahead of the election of parliamentary leadership and the start of legislative business.
